A Christian's Library

14) The Christian and His/Her God: The Christian’s Library

I. A Few Brief Points about Reading

1. Christians ought to have a high regard for the value of reading
(Matthew 12:3, 5; 19:4; 23:31; 2 Tim 4:13).

2. Books have had been a major means of grace in the history of the world
(ex: 2 Kings 22; Reformation books / pamphlets).

3. Not all books are worth reading (Ecclesiastes 12:12; Acts 19:19).

4. The reading of other books should never be allowed to hinder our reading of the Book.

5. A Christian library is a worthwhile investment for the spiritual well-being of your family today and for future generations.

  1. Not that you asked, :-) , but #35 is a no-go for me. Tedd Tripp definitely needed to wait to become a grandfather before he wrote any book on child-rearing. "Instructing a Child's Heart" is much better and written later in his life. "Shepherding" seems a book written by a hot-headed young father who thought he could literally whip his children into being robot-like creatures who obeyed like drones. God does not Father like this. Most times He allows natural consequences to teach instead of stepping in and giving us a flogging. Plus, the earlier versions of "Shepherding" advised removing a baby's diaper to spank. Too weird.
